Personnel problems

There is no good system for paying salaries in Lui. Many hospital employees receive no salary or very little compensation. Although we used to have a nurse training in-house, funded by Samaritans Purse, there are now hardly any qualified doctors and nurses to be found.

CUAMM, Doctors with Africa (from Italy) has ensured that there is at least a qualified doctor present. This is currently the director of the hospital, Dr. Stefano Dacquino. We hope for additional personnel support from CUAMM from mid-2023.

Medical supplies needed for Lui Hospital

Our Lui Hospital urgently needs office supplies and all kinds of other materials that are normally found in a hospital, such as portable lamps for the delivery room in the changing room.

Serious diseases

Many serious diseases occur in the Lui hospital region. Most of the patients brought in are children under the age of 5. These children often have diarrhea and are dehydrated. But other diseases are also common, such as measles, eye diseases and even cholera.

Ambulance needed

Unfortunately, we do not have a real ambulance as used in the Western world. We do have access to old Toyota Landcruisers, without further facilities. Unfortunately, the last Landcruiser broke down a few years ago. We hope for better times.
